This is a creative nonfiction short short (200 words) recounting my first solo arrest while working as an officer for the Sacramento Police Department.
You can read “Running in Circles” HERE. It’s story #2 under the heading “Wet Feet.”
Events
- “Seventy Days of Sweat–Round 2” October 15, 2007 — January 15, 2008
- “National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)” November 1, 2007 — November 30, 2007
In the spirit of NaNoWriMo, the goal of Seventy Days of Sweat
“is to have a completed manuscript at the challenge’s end.” Participants “agree to write from 750 to 1500 words a day [. . .] for 70 days.”
UPDATE:
This is not the contest for me, so I am opting out beginning January 1st, 2008!
National Novel Writing Month “is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.”
This contest changed the way I approach my writing: it taught me to draft with reckless abandon. It also showed me just how productive one can be when an hour or two each day is set aside to write–no matter what.
